I’m Mike Hodge and am an Independent Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) and Instrument Flight Instructor (CFI-I) based out of the Sheboygan Municipal Airport (KSBM). For a lot of instructors, the role of CFI is used as a stepping stone on the way to the airlines or charter operations. For myself, becoming a flight instructor has always been my dream.
Ever since I was little I, like most aviators, had my head turned towards the sky with every plane that passed overhead. I wanted nothing more than to be up to in the air. At the age of 18, I obtained my Private Pilot Certificate and did some flying before life got in the way and grounded me for nearly 15 years.
Once I took to the skies again I had a big realization. That as much as I enjoyed flying, teaching others to fly felt like something I would enjoy even more. To be able to take a student, help them achieve a lifelong dream while teaching them to be safe and risk-averse aviators would be far more fulfilling for me than to work for the airlines. So off towards that goal I went and obtained my Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) in 2020 and my Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate in 2021.
I believe that flight training should be cost-effective, tailored to each student, and most importantly fun. I structure each lesson around those goals and am always seeking feedback as to how to improve as an instructor. I believe that to be a good steward of aviation, we have to have the mindset of continual growth and I try to lead by example.
If you feel as though we may be a good fit, I encourage you to contact me using the form below or by calling or emailing me directly. I wish you the best of luck in your flying endeavors, and if there is anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to reach out!
